So, I happened across this review of one of Eddie Campbell's new books by master letterer Todd Klein. here's the blog (scroll down a bit): kleinletters.com/Blog/and an excerpt: Okay, let’s talk about the lettering. I like Eddie’s lettering, quirky as it is, because it’s the perfect expression of his personal style. I usually approve of writer/artists doing their own lettering, as it completes the whole process of expressing their thoughts and ideas in a unique way. Eddie’s lettering is usually upper and lower case, with a nice organic bounce. Occasionally it’s a little hard to read, especially when the “h” has a short left-hand stroke that makes it look like an “n”, but it doesn’t slow me down that much, really. And in this book he’s taken care to make the lettering as large a possible, which helps. I know we've got a ton of Eddie Campbell fans, any thoughts?

Wow, what a fantastic blog! Thanks for posting it!
I'd have to agree, Campbell's lettering has a life and vitality to it. And most importantly, its compliments his hooky- loose upper/lowercases fit well with the loose style of his art. I like how it makes his art feel like words and his words look like drawings.
Doing upper/lower cases lettering is pretty hard; I find i get my dangely-bits tangled with my tall bits and the result is as unreadable as it is suggestive-sounding.
