Maybe I'm late to the party on this one, but Google maps has this feature--it must be fairly new because I don't remember ever spotting it before:
You can zoom down to street level on many city streets (not all, but many, and probably only in big cities) and click "street view." Click on the street (if it's outlined in blue) and you will then be magically transported down onto the street itself and will be able to see photographic-type representations of buildings, streets, cars, etc., in almost-3 dimensions, and you can walk around on the street to your heart's content.
It does have its limitations--as I said, it doesn't work on every street (yet), only major streets in major cities. And the resolution is, admittedly, shitty. Also, it's not true 3-D, but a pretty good Nintendo-64 level simulation.
Even so--it's just the coolest.

that is pretty rad alright. i wonder how many people know they're in these pictures.
i've heard there's one city block where you can see a dude stealing a car.

pretty damn cool. i took a walk down 4th ave. in san diego last night to visit some of my con weekend haunts. here's some screen shots... ah, the pacifica. nothing like this hotel for cheap accommodations for your visit to the con. it's a pretty rad place, full of noir mystique. if you plan to go to sandy eggo comicon, this might be a place to stay if you need to go on the cheap. that is, if you can get past the shower being a room separate from your room (they also have toilet "closets"... real old school). they even have a website now... www.pacificahotelsd.com/the moon cafe. down the street a few blocks. a perfect place to get some greasy morning grub before walking back down the street, past the hotel to... that temple of comics commerce, the convention center. this 3D thing is totally rad.

Apparently they have a google truck with 4 cameras on top that just snaps a picture every few seconds. Something like that.
I heard some dude got mad because they snapped a picture of him going into an adult video store.
