so I am learning to play the guitar... Is it better to start off with a pick or should I just suck it up and bloody myself till I get a callous or am I doing something wrong? What I'm saying is that the side of my right thumb is kind of black right now.

Either get a pick or stop playing those Slayer songs.

yowtch! there's also thumbpicks if you're so inclined.
i think a guitarist should use what they feel is most natural for them. i only use a pick so i won't have to amplify my acoustic. i wanna get a nylon string guitar and experiment with just using my fingers/hand instead of a pick...

ok. Someone gave me a pick to use while this blister heals. Do you know where I can find some free beginners tableture? I can play mary had a little lamb and a depressing sounding simple song I made up based on mary had a little lamb. Time to start a Myspace page!
