Easter is Sunday March 23rd. Come celebrate it in the traditional manner of our people (the geeks) with an afternoon of zombie movies and cupcakes.

WHO: You!
WHAT: Three-four films, plus shorts in between. Jon-Mikel and Steve have yet to decide on the features, but shorts will include "Samurai Jack and the Zombies" and "Amazing Screw-On Head".
WHERE: Colodny Building, main classroom.
WHEN: Easter Sunday, noon until it's over.
WHY: You're too old to hunt for Easter eggs, so what else are you gonna do after church?

i'm putting together an easter basket for the little one this year. it's too bad there's not more little kids that might show up (unless the Michelles and Sturm and Lutes show up...) we could have a cascaróne fight.

Bio Zombie

Bio Zombie is a Hong Kong zombie-comedy film from 1998, starring Jordan Chan. It spoofs George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

Two young men give an apparently dead businessman a soft drink, which is in actuality an experimental biological weapon that turns him into a flesh eating zombie. Returning to the mall in which they work, the man escapes and begins infecting the mall population, forcing a small group of misfits to band together in order to survive.

Let Sleeping Corpses Lie

Non si deve profanare il sonno dei morti better known as The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue or Let Sleeping Corpses Lie is a 1974 horror film written and directed by Jorge Grau and starring Ray Lovelock.

The film begins with us following our hero George (Ray Lovelock) on a trip from London to the Lake District to work on a new house with some of his friends. On the way his bike is trashed by Edna (Cristina Galbo) and he persuades her to give him a lift to his destination. Edna is on her way to visit her troubled sister. This unlikely pairing then enter a desperate situation where an agricultural machine designed to kill insects and act as an ultrasonic pesticide has caused the dead to rise and roam about. Of course the police do not believe their story and the inspector heading the investigation (Arthur Kennedy) takes an instant dislike to George.

Wild Zero

Wild Zero is a 2000 Japanese rock ‘n’ roll "zombie horror" classic directed by Tetsuro Takeuchi and starring the Japanese garage rock band Guitar Wolf. It borrows many elements from other popular B-movies such as Rebel Without a Cause and Psychomania.

Ace, a wannabe rock star, is on his way to a concert of the rock/punk band Guitar Wolf when aliens invade the Earth. As a result the dead rise to their feet in the countryside setting of Asahi, Japan, with an appetite for flesh. Enlisting the help of Guitar Wolf, Ace and the members of the band get entangled in many misadventures with crazy rock managers in very tight shorts, transsexuals, naked women shooting guns in the shower, and bloodthirsty zombies ready to tear them apart. Leather jackets, loud over-modulated music, laser guitar picks, motorcycles, guns, muscle cars, and fire abound. Guitar Wolf, a Japanese trio signed to Matador Records in the US --and self-proclaimed coolest rock band in the world-- star as the well-coiffed hipster heroes. It is also a love story.

The music, in a garage punk vein, plays an important role in the film. This film is similar to another movie by a Spanish punk group, La matanza caníbal de los garrulos lisérgicos produced by Siniestro Total (a punk band from Vigo, Spain).

Zombi 2

Zombi 2 (also known as Zombie, Island of the Living Dead, Zombie Island, Zombie Flesh Eaters and Woodoo) is the best-known of Lucio Fulci's films. It sparked an obsession with zombie films across Europe and made Fulci a horror icon. Despite the fact that the title alludes to the film being a sequel to Zombi (the European title of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead), the films are unrelated. When the film was released in 1979, it was scorned for its extremely bloody content but was still a tremendous worldwide commercial success.

An apparently abandoned yacht drifts into New York Harbor, and the Harbor Patrol investigates. On board, a huge rotting man (Captain Haggerty) kills Marty, one of the patrolmen, by tearing out his neck with his teeth. The remaining patrol man Bill manages to knock the hulking man into the sea by blasting him with his revolver several times.

A young woman named Anne Bowels (Tisa Farrow) is questioned by the police when it is discovered that the boat belonged to her father (Ugo Bologna). She does not know anything except that her father left for a tropical island to do research. A reporter named Peter West (Ian McCulloch) is assigned by his news editor (director Lucio Fulci in a cameo) to get the story on the mysterious boat. Anne and Peter meet on the boat and decide to work together after finding a note from Anne's father. The note says that he is on the island of Matool and that he has come down with a strange disease. Anne and Peter enlist the aid of a seafaring couple, Brian Hull (Pier Luigi Conti) and Susan Barrett (Auretta Gay), to help find Matool.

On Matool, Dr. David Menard (Richard Johnson) is hard at work studying the island's secrets. Matool is a cursed place where the dead rise to attack the living, and Menard is determined to find out why. Menard's contemptous, highly-stbackflipg wife Paola (Olga Karlatos) wants to leave the island in fear of the zombie attacks. But Menard insists on staying to continue his research. When Anne, Peter, Brian, and Susan reach Matool, the island itself seems to come alive, vomiting forth all the dead buried on the island to kill them.

There will also be shorts from around the world, trailers for (what seemed to me) intriguing zombie movies, and snacks! I encourage folks to bring food potluck-style, as there are few restaurants open on Easter Sunday, and virtually nothing open in WRJ. I'll make sure there are a few goodies on hand for those who hunger for something other than the flesh of the living, and I encourage everyone to chip in and bring what they can!

Finally, for the intrepid and patient among you, there may be a special surprise screening at the end of the day - if any of you can hold out that long!

We start at noon on Sunday. The order of the films will be determined by those who are there, though Zombi 2 will be the last of the for listed films to be shown.
