Wish I could do an entire story in that style, it would be so tricky to master all of those nuances and keep the impulse to go off on your own in check. I see that stuff and think, "I can't draw anyhow. What's the use? I should be using my x-acto blades to carve drawings across my wrists! My useless, useless wrists!"

I picked up that Cartoon Modern book from the Dartmouth library and it's unreal. I've already gone and done an illustration in this style and definitely going to work out a style like this for a couple of different projects. The UPA stuff is so inspiring. BTW there is UPA animation Mignola included in one of the the special edition Hellboy DVDs; I saw this cartoon with friends at Dylan Williams' house last year and, well, you just have to see it to believe it.
