Hey folks, I'm sending some mail to Carnell Hunnicutt soon -- he's an aspiring cartoonist in a supermax prison in Connecticut. From what he tells me, he sounds pretty motivated to become a better cartoonist and further his career -- and while I don't have the heart to tell him that you CAN'T further your career as a cartoonist, I still thought it'd be cool to send him some examples of real quality cartooning work that he might not have seen already, so he can improve his cartooning. I really want to send him some Bros Hernandez stuff in particular, but I'm sure anything well-done would be good. If you've got any comics you think he should see, I'd be happy to get a box together for him and send it. Anyone have anything? I think they won't let anything too sexual or political in, but the censoring process seems pretty random. Feel free to write him too, he could definitely use the encouragement. His address, and some of his comics, can be found here: www.realcostofprisons.org/comix/hunnicutt/

Well, if he has any internet access, I'd recommend Ted Rall, Keith Knight and Slowpoke for their content.
As for overall, the Hernandez bros are a great choice. Also maybe (some sexual content).
Some sort of sampler or anthology like the SPX antho might be good if there are any extras. Also, a copy of Lonstreth and Renier's "For the Love of Comic" for basic DIY-punkrock instruction.
Just some ideas,
-M
